Kate Devine

(she/her)
Kate Devine is the founder of Mood Barre, a personal essayist, and teacher whose work focuses on movement and creativity. She is interested in how movement can uplift our moods and usher us into more receptive states of mind. Her classes weave elements of barre, mat Pilates, and stretching for a joyful, unique, and energizing experience. Her thoughtfully-sequenced, low-impact, strengthening classes are suitable for all. On the mat and on the page, Kate sorts through lived experience to find deeper self-awareness and self-expression.

Kate’s writing explores relationships, especially the ever-evolving relationship to self. Her essays and poems have been published in New York Magazine’s The Cut and various literary magazines. She has an MFA in creative nonfiction writing from Sarah Lawrence College.

Originally from coastal New Jersey, Kate currently calls Catskill, New York home.

Movement philosophy

Mood Barre is a new digital movement studio dedicated to movement practices that are physically compelling and intentionally mood-setting.

Our bodies are our physical channels for feeling, intention, and self-expression. My interest in movement is rooted in taking care of this channel so that we can feel, think, and create with more clarity.

By weaving elements of barre, mat Pilates, and stretching, Mood Barre classes provide an opportunity for you to tap into your strength, grace, sensuality, creativity, and self-knowledge.

Throughout my life, I’ve been drawn to movement practices that engage my senses and put me more deeply in touch with different areas of my body. I have always turned to movement to care for myself,  to feel joyful in my body, and to express myself with more ease.

We move, we feel, we create.
